METAMORPHOSES

METAMORPHOSES

For 100 riveting minutes award-winning actor Todd Conner breathes fire into Ovid's epic of classical myth. With only a few props, chimes, a splash of light, harp, and a prodigiously versatile voice, Conner transforms the "one-man-show” into a Sixteen-God Event that supports a full cast of humans, all played with such clarity and humor you'll forget there is only “one man” in front of you. The result is a theatrical tour de force where you soon find that the changing forms “out there” in the dark are inside your mind and under your own skin. And if you engage fully enough, by the time you leave, you'll know you're someone else.

CLARA AICH STUDIO

218 East 25th Street

New York City

7:00pm

Clara Aich Studio is one of the most evocative and enigmatic performance spaces in New York City. This former foundry and atelier of stone sculptors Rochette & Parzini at 218 East 25th Street was reclaimed from near ruin in 1979 and is itself a tale of metamorphosis. Parzini arrived in America in 1893 and founded his partnership with Rochette in 1904. He had studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and their stone sculptures and architectural frontispieces decorate the New York architectural landscape, from the Cunard Building to the New York Public Library and all the way to the West Coast. Many other commissions of R&P can still be seen in situ in this venue, which is today the photography studio of Hungarian photographer Clara Aich. Since it was reborn in 1979, the atelier has become a hothouse for countless performers in a full-spectrum of artistic forms. In 25 years of my performing Metamorphoses, there has never been an interior better suited to tell Ovid’s stories. In its renovated form it has hosted numerous performances and events, musical, dramatic, and social. -T.C.
